A mobile phone offering capabilities beyond the usual voice and text is considered a smartphone. These functionalities could include push email, Blackberry support, PDF reader, Office document editors etc. You have several different platforms to choose from, depending on your budget and specific requirements.

1 Nokia E50 (Rs 8k) - Entry level business phone from Nokia; light on the pocket and high on performance.

2 Nokia E51 (Rs 11k) - Series 60, Blackberry support and a comfortable keypad.

3 Asus P320 (Rs 13k) - Offers GPS, Wi-Fi and touchscreen at an unbelievable price.

4 Asus P527 (Rs 15k) - With Windows Mobile 6.1, the Asus P527 is excellent value.

5 Nokia N82 (Rs 19k) - A 5MP camera, combines multimedia & smartphone features.

6 Nokia E71 (Rs 19k) - Slimmer & smarter than its predecessor, the E71 combines fun and business.

7 Blackberry 8320 (Rs 24k) - One of the few Blackberry devices to feature Wi-Fi built in.

8 HTC Touch Diamond (Rs 27k) - Available exclusively with Airtel, with the new TouchFlo 3D.

9 Nokia N95(8GB) (Rs 24k) - Predecessor to the N96 this is still one of the best around.

10 Samsung Innov8 (Rs 42k) - 8MP camera on the Series60 platform.

The first Series 60 touchscreen phone, the 5800 a.k.a. Nokia Tube has been in the making for quite some time now. Expect it in Q4 for about Rs 25,000.

HTC Touch HD
Take the HTC Touch Diamond, add a much higher resolution screen, faster processor and TouchFlo 3D, and you get the Touch HD. Expect it in Q1 2009 for about Rs 36,000.
