FIFA for Xbox 360

12/2/2008

EA's FIFA series have always been one of the best soccer games. It's the only 'fix' for soccer lovers like me when an actual game isn't on. Ever since the beginning of the FIFA game franchise in 1993, EA has been introducing a new episode every year; last year it was FIFA'08 which we loved for its sheer beauty and intuitive gameplay. Now let's look at what FIFA'09 brings to the table. For starters, this new episode feels so real, fresh, crisp, and fast-paced that calling it one of the best games from the series won't be an exaggeration.

Apparent immediately is that the sound effects have been worked on. Another refreshing addition that I found in the gameplay was the custom team tactics that allows you to change the gameplay aspect from the team manager's view. Then there are FIFA 09 clubs; you can create a club of your own and then challenge other clubs online for a 10 on 10 match. 'Be a Pro' returns with full control of the player this time on the field. The AI of the game is also impressive. I was impressed with the overall defense and attack while playing against the bots. The AI not only tries to keep the game in its favor, but has also improved in terms of quicker reflexes and recovery.

The graphics of the game are top-notch with perfect color balance and excellent detailing; everything from a player's costumes to his face to the advertisement banners to the playground look so real. All the movements (players running after the ball, falling down while aiming a goal, goalkeepers sliding on the ground) happen smoothly.

The single player mode is fun, but the multiplayer is where you'll get hooked. The sheer variety of enhancements and special moves will keep you interested for sure. A must have for FIFA fans. So, what are you waiting for, go grab it!
