NEC CE143 is an unassuming name for a new chip. But what it can do will blow
you away! Designed for phones and mobile devices, it supports video decoding
upto 1080p; or full HD video. This means that not only will your phone be able
to shoot full HD video (like some of the high-end, Rs 60k plus camcorders
available today), but it will also be able to output 1080p video to a full HD
display or projector. The new chip also enables a 12 Megapixel camera with all
the bells & whistles like face detection, smile detection and digital image
stabilization-features you would find on any high-end prosumer digital camera
today. The NEC CE143 does all this while sipping power, but the best part? It's
already available to phone manufacturers, and you should start seeing some
actual devices in your hand before the year is out.
There is another innovation in mobile devices that promises to change your
personal and professional life - projectors, that can give you a 50-inch screen,
fitting right in your pocket. And I'm not talking about any oversized pocket or
coat pocket. CES 2009 saw the Logic Wireless projector phone, and while it
didn't look like much, its capabilities were amazing. That, and several other
palm-sized LED projectors from 3M, Optoma and Samsung will be finding their way
to your local electronics store soon. Imprompu photo slide show? No problem.
Catching a movie on the train? Sure. Quick presentation without the need for a
laptop or any heavy equipment? Absolutely.
