People have a personal, intimate relationship with their phones, fulfilling one of their most fundamental needs

Q.Could you share some interesting facts about Micromax?
RS: a) Micromax means deriving maximum from micro.
b) The average age of employees in Micromax is 27 yrs.
c) We are the largest Indian mobile phone company.

Q. What, according to you, is the primary reason that Micromax manages to sell in high numbers?
RS: At Micromax we believe that people should consider Micromax phones as their life management tool. People have an intimate personal relationship with it, fulfilling one of their most fundamental needs! Our core aim is to provide value for money to our customers and that is what has been our success mantra.

Q. How will Micromax take the fight to the larger, worldwide players? Is it just on the basis of lower price handsets?
RS: Each product of Micromax has a unique feature. We are technology innovators and will offer our customers on an average two new handsets every month. Our strategy is not to enter into the existing segments but to create new segments with our technology. Controlling the cost of the technology is a part of our commitment to our customers. We want to bring to the Indian market the technology and features which no one has brought at the cost which everyone can afford. Soon you will see phones like Gravity and Ezpad from Micromax with ground-breaking technologies.

Q.We understand that Micromax has more of a push in B and C class cities. But wouldn't it be easy to sell online too? Either through online shopping sites or your own portal?
RS: Our company is very young right now. We are currently concentrating on our product line. We are also looking at new horizons and expansion of our base to reach out to our customers. Yes we do plan to offer phones through online shopping very soon.

Q. How do you, as a COO, manage and utilize gadgets in your day-to-day life?
RS: I am a very gadget and tech-friendly person. Since the time we have launched our handsets I have been using only Micromax cell phones and I keep changing my cell phone every month thus using latest technology. At present I'm using Micromax Ezpad which will be launched soon with email and chatting capabilities.

The laptop I use is a Dell XT2 which has humongous computation capability and also has touch screen for easy navigation.

Q. What is your favorite travel destination and what gadgets would you typically carry along on such a trip?
RS: My favorite travel destination is Montreal for the typical French serenity it offers. I always carry my Bose iPod docking station and my iPod Touch to play my favorite music.

Q. What are your gadget and brand preferences as far as home entertainment goes?
RS:
For home entertainment, I use Bose extensively. I use both the iPod dock and a home theatre system as both provide fantastic sound fidelity according to me.

Q. Where do you prefer to buy your gadgets from; online, large retailers, exclusive stores?
RS: Always from exclusive stores.
