The Plantronics Explorer 220 is an entry-level Bluetooth headset with a
standard over-the-ear design. At first glance, its pretty well made and
attractive. Pairing is very straightforward; the first time it is switched on,
it automatically goes into pairing mode. Plantronics calls this 'Quick Pair'. To
pair with another device later on, you have to hold the multifunction key down
for 8 seconds to activate pairing mode and enter the standard '0000' passkey.
The LED flashes blue and red alternately to indicate pairing mode, intermittent
blue to indicate that it's connected to a source and both red and blue together
to indicate an incoming call.

You can pair it with all Bluetooth enabled mobile phones and laptops which
support the headset and handsfree profile. The ear hook is also easily switched
from left to right ear orientation without fuss; just twist it. The silicone tip
on the earpiece can be removed for cleaning. A wall charger is supplied, which
uses a proprietary connector and a full charge takes about an hour. Voice
clarity is excellent, and the battery is designed to last 5 to 6 hours of
talktime. I felt that it was sturdy, but not very comfortable for use over an
hour. It doesn't have any fancy extras like wind noise reduction, but for an
entry-level headset, the Explorer 220 is spot on, and even looks a lot more
expensive than it really is.
