Myth Busting

We heard that if you place an egg between two active cellphones for long enough, the egg will get cooked. Did it happen? Read on for the result

The dangers of cell phone radiation has long since been a hotly debated topic. Studies have linked excessive cell phone usage to cancer and other such avoidable maladies. While we're of the opinion that anything in excess is potentially harmful, it was particularly interesting when someone (on the great, big, worldwide web) proclaimed that it was possible to boil an egg using the radiation of cellphones alone, we just had to try it out.

The website claimed that if an egg was placed directly between two cellphones (in an egg holder or something similar), and a call was initiated between the two cellphones for about 65 minutes, the egg would get cooked in that time. We setup something similar, as shown in the picture (with some high expectations, I might add). It really did seem possible, especially since cellphones do get a little hot after extended use. We kept it on the 'boil' for 110 minutes (almost double of the required time) and then gave up because the egg wasn't even warm.

They were either in a really hot place to begin with, or the entire thing was a big hoax! Not to say that you should now start using your cellphone on hours on end with reckless abandon, but don't believe everything you see on the net.
