This is the story of an old city called Seuthopolis in Bulgaria that existed
a few centuries before Christ. It's been under water for a long time, about 20 m
below the water surface of Koprinka reservoir near the city of Kazanluk in
central Bulgaria. And now a firm called Tilev Architects has literally unearthed
a plan to bring it back to life.

They're going to construct a dike, kind of like a circular depression in the
water, roughly half a kilometer in diameter. Inside will be the new city of
Seuthopolis, circa 2009, and inside, will be living space, a hotel, restaurants,
cafés, markets, concert hall, office space and even a museum. A complete city in
a circular area less than half a km wide. The photos you see here are actually
just concept 3D drawings but they'll give you a pretty good idea of what the
finished project will look like from the air. Once completed, you'll have to
approach by boat. And this is cool: the architects mention that during the
approach by sea, the city will be almost invisible. You'll only begin to see the
land inside from a short distance away. The dangers are obvious. There will be a
constant flow of water inside, which will have to be handled by pumps. Plus if
water levels rise dramatically, the whole city could be underwater again. But
the project is more about art & history rather than practicality. Should be an
extreme place to live in, under the fear of being drowned any second!
