Just as Shelby's Ultimate Aero is one of the highest performance fossil
fuel-powered cars today, they plan to make this-the Aero Electric Vehicle (EV),
one of the fastest in the world. It's a simple plan – to make an exotic electric
vehicle with all the charisma, all the power, speed, acceleration and the price
tag of a genuine supercar.
But what makes this car extreme is not the dual 500 bhp electric motors, nor
the 2.5 second 0-100kmph time, nor the claimed 330 kmph top speed. What makes it
extreme is Shelby's claim of a 10-minute full recharge time and a range of about
300kms on a single charge. While highly, highly unlikely, if they do make it
happen by some stroke of miraculous genius, the Shelby Ultimate Aero EV will
probably change the way we view electric cars altogether. With the first
pre-production vehicles in Q2 '09, they're also hoping for the title of the
world's fastest elecric car.
