A Step Above

If you got bored with your regular analog video recorder then try your hands on this compact DVD camcorder

A quick switch button just above the joystick lets you switch between the video and photo modes. This kills the long waiting period if one wants to skip from video to photo mode. Coming to the features of this good looker it comes with a 35X optical zoom and a whooping 1000X digital zoom, which I am sure no one will use until you have a super steady hand. DC220 comes with a mini USB 2.0 port to transfer images and videos, with pictbridge option to directly print photographs with compatible printers.

Videos shot from the camera are pretty decent for the intermediate level, but become a bit grainy on high levels of zoom. A miniSD card slot along with the AV port is provided, which are well under cover on the side of the joystick. Photos taken with camcorder were quite average and considering it as a mid level camcorder, it is a bit awkward. Moreover, the camcorder has no flash either. A 850 mAH Li-ion battery powers up the camcorder and comes with a quick start switch, which puts the camera on stand by mode. The camcorder powers off automatically within few minutes, if its kept on for long, so you don't go through the whole phase of starting up and shutting down for saving the battery life.

With this camcorder you get options to choose shutter priority, night expo- sure modes, and also include four white balance settings. The camera just has 680,000 pixel CCD sensor, which is quite less than the other 1 MP video recorders available in the market but still manages to record good quality video. Overall, this light in weight camcorder is comfortable to use, with well placed keys, good zoom levels, wide screen LCD. And considering its price, it is a good choice for the intermediate users.

It is perhaps one of the best looking DVD camcorders I have seen. It's sleek, curvy, less prone to fingerprints, but above all it is quite light in weight, weighing at just 405 grams. It sports a 2.7 inch widescreen LCD with playback and zooming buttons at the bottom. A well placed navigational joystick is also included, which replaces all those cumbersome navigation buttons that take much more space.
