Bigger is definitely better these days. LG has added to the bigger variety by
introducing there new X canvas 37 and 42 inch flat panel LCDs. These LCDs are
just the right fit for your living room. And if you have a big enough bedroom,
then you might as well fit the 37” in there. I got to lay my hands on these
monsters and checked out what makes them tick.
Though the 37LC7R and the 42LC7R are not a love at first sight kind of TVs,
you start adoring them after you've started using them. They might not be the
best looking TVs in the segment, but they definitely come packed with a punch.
The twin speakers in both the LCDs give a total output of 20W (10W x 2) and are
well crafted at the bottom of the LCDs, hard to distinguish from the remaining
panel. LG is right there in the running with other brands as these TVs are HD
ready and for comfort have buttons on the right hand side of the screen. So you
don't have to worry if you are a shortie or if the TV is wall mounted; you can
still easily access the buttons (that is if you lose the remote).
Both LCDs have 2x component video, 2 HDMI ports, S-video, VGA and a 2x
composite. The contrast ratio of the display is quite nice at 10000:1 with an
aspect ratio of 16:9; and to top it all, they have a cool 5 ms response time.
So, the picture quality is quite crisp and gives you a good gaming experience;
especially on the 42 inch, which we tested with the Xbox 360.

The LCDs are 1080p ready but only with HDMI terminals, and with a maximum
resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. Sound output is quite good in both the flat
panels and much better than some of the other LCDs we reviewed in the past. Both
the LCDs come with huge, full function remotes with a direct brightness button.
So now you need not go to the menu, again and again, for changing the brightness
of the screen. However, a minor drawback with these LCDs is that they can't be
rotated. This means you need to pick up all of their 16.3 (for the 37”) and 24.6
kilos (for the 42”), to move them around. Their prices are quite attractive and
at par with the industry. The 37” costs Rs 79,000 while the 42” is being sold at
Rs 91,000. In a nutshell, even though the LCDs might not kill you with their
looks, they are definitely two big, mean monsters that'll certainly attract
attention in one's living room. A bit of a zing on the looks, would have spiced
up the overall appeal. However, considering their price and features, they are
definitely a good buy.
