The Samsung LA19R71BM LCD is a sleek 19“ LCD TV sporting a black bezel
similar to its big brothers in the Samsung Bordeaux range. It comes with a tilt
stand that also has a lock mechanism. A wall mounting kit is bundled with the
LCD TV which will attract users who are short on space or simply want the TV to
be out of reach of children. The power button is at the front and other basic
control buttons ( volume, channel, source) are on the right hand side.
The TV has component, S-video, D-sub as well as composite connectivity
options, but what impressed me was that it also had HDMI which is usually
present only in high end TVs. It has a display resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels,
which is the same as most 19“ wide screen LCD monitors available today. With all
kinds of DVD movies, images looked vibrant with vivid colors and good contrast.
The speakers provided clear sound and had adequate bass.
What I didn't like about the TV was the low volume of the speakers. Even at
maximum volume, I felt that the volume was quite low as compared to a normal 21”
TV. When I connected it to a CPU to use it as a monitor, it was a total
disappointment as changing the resolution to anything above 800 x 600 resulted
in blurred display with visible ghosting. Overall, it's best to use it as a
second TV in a place where space is at a premium.
