Touchscreens seems to totally the way of the present, and the future. We have Touchscreen mobiles which have become a rage. Car GPS devices totally rely on touchscreen capabilities. Sometime late last year, we saw the first strains of the influence really capturing the desktop market as well, with the original HP TouchSmart PC. Since then, a lot of rivals have stormed the market with similar products (albeit at a lower price and powered by Atom processors). HP decided to go one better this time.

The HP Touchsmart IQ510 all-in-one desktop PC carries on with the same basic foundations of its predecessor, but there are huge performance improvements, plus the fact that a newer model refreshes the lineup.

The IQ510 is powered by Intel's Core2 Duo processor T5850 @ 2.16GHz coupled with 4GB RAM. The processing power on tap is verified by the PC Mark 05 score of 4990, which is pretty good for a consumer desktop. You can quite literally open a lot of applications, browser tabs as well as the odd media player in the background. The Touchsmart has a 500GB hard drive (7200RPM) which also assists in the superb speed and performance.

The 22-inch screen however, is the highlight of the entire package. Supporting a max resolution of 1680x1050, it is more than capable of playing HD ready files. The built in NVidia's GeForce 9300M graphics card ensures that you have enough options to tweak and make the display as vibrant as you want. Even when it comes to gaming, the TouchSmart is no pushover. The 3D Mark score of 1904 is testament to the fact that you will be able to play your favorite games at a medium resolution.

However, the biggest highlight of this version of the TouchSmart is the responsive touch mechanism. This was one grouse we had with the previous version, but it is safe to say that those issues are rectified now. Touch response is precise and instant, and you don't need to repeat the actions again and again to get things done.

The all in one PC has the form factor of a flat panel TV, and still has all the goodies included. There is a slot load DVD drive, 5 USB ports, 5-in-1 memory card reader, built in TV tuner, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The extremely slim keyboard and the mouse are wireless, which adds to the convenience if you are watching a movie. There is a remote as well, which assists in that aspect.

Overall, a machine which looks good, and performs exceptionally well. It is a tad expensive, but then again, that's the premium you pay for exclusivity.
