The
M930 is a business phone that works in pretty much the same way as the Nokia
Communicator (with a sideways clamshell), but that's the only thing that these
two devices have
in common.
Running on Windows Mobile 6, the M930 is a non-touch screen device that has a
sturdy build and decent ergonomics. On the outside it looks like a regular
(albeit thick) Windows Smartphone. Inside, you'll see the large QWERTY keyboard
which is great for typing or editing text. It has 256 MB of expandable flash
memory and 64 MB of onboard RAM, which is decent enough to perform regular
operations. It even includes a 2 MP front camera, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, and HSDPA.
Interestingly, you can control your presentations on a laptop over Bluetooth
with this device. It also has a 'My Secrets' feature for keeping confidential
information secured by a PIN. An oddity is the smaller inner display-while the
screen outside is a respectable 2 inches, the inner screen is only 2.6-inches,
leaving a lot of wasted space on either side. A larger display would have added
to the 'wow' factor and would have made browsing and reading mails/documents
much easier too. Another quirk was the weak speaker. With just one loudspeaker,
ring tones were never loud enough and the speakerphone suffered too.
Overall, I'd say that this has tough competition from many of Asus' own
(cheaper) PDAs and Nokia's new E71 & E66 business phones.
