A printer which combines scanning and copying in a visually appealing avatar
is what many people look for. But the HP PhotoSmart C4388 has another ace up its
sleeve; integrated 802.11 WiFi networking.
The control panel of the device is on top and just below it is a 1.5-inch LCD
and other controls for scanning and one-touch copying. You also get multiple
memory card slots (XD, MS/Duo, SD-MMC and CF). Just insert the card, preview the
photo on the LCD and print.
This printer took 1min 15 seconds for a 4x6 photo print and almost 4 minutes
for an A4-sized photo print. For copying it took more about a minute for both B
& W and colored copies. To print a text document using 'Fast Draft' and 'Fast
Normal' settings, it took 4 and 9 seconds respectively. Print quality for text
was fine but we've seen better photos from MFDs. The printed photo had little
pits running horizontally all over. Scanning and copying was hassle free though.
Since it has built in WiFi, it's actually great for a small home office with
multiple laptops-they can all connect and print wirelessly without having to
worry about cabling.
So while the C4388 is not great for high-quality photo prints, buy it if you
need the convenience of a WiFi MFD.
