In its 6th revision, Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer franchise is better than
ever. It's currently available for PC, PS2 and Xbox 360. Even if you don't
follow football, this game might just convert you. In PES 6, you can choose to
play with any team from around the world. What makes it even more interesting is
that the game has likenesses of real football players playing on authentic
football fields of the world. The main competition is EA's FIFA, but I feel PES
has a simpler control system. To keep gameplay exciting, you can choose amongst
a quick match or league or
cup matches.
If you're a beginner (either for football or for the video game) the training
mode will help you out. You can learn the moves and play with either the
keyboard or a gamepad. The 2-player mode is supported on the same PC using
multiple gamepads. But the best part is that you can use the multi-player
functionality over the Internet and across multiple platforms. So if you're
playing on the PC, there's nothing to stop you from competing against someone
playing the same game on the PlayStation 2.
I like the cutscene movies as compared to its earlier versions but
the in-game graphics could do with a little sprucing up. Overall, great audio
and gameplay in one of the best football franchises ever and a compelling buy if
you're a PES fan.
