To seekers and hardcore fans, the title Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe would
probably be enough persuasion. With this game, Midway is trying to cash-in on
the licenses of arguably two of the biggest realms of characters. Even when you
think about being able to pit the one and only Scorpion against the nightly
might of the Batman in a full blown next-gen Vs fight, reviews and scores would
probably mean nothing. To be honest, it's only natural for the Mortal Kombat
characters to finally be able to compete against superheroes after all the years
of fireball shooting and teleporting their own brains out over and over again.
So the concept that Midway has implemented is pretty much simple and straight;
integrate the most popular superheroes of the DC Universe into the Mortal Kombat
fighting realm.

What made Mortal Kombat a household name for being the most brutal action
franchise has been toned down a bit, the level of violence, blood, gore, among
other elements. But the good thing is that the action and the level of
entertainment manages to retain the classic Mortal Kombat feel. MK vs DCU is all
about the ability to dial combos and extremely quick, rehearsed moves. The
roster is absolutely jam packed with the most popular characters from both
spheres. With 22 fighters, the list is fairly diverse. Cult figures like
Scorpion and Lu Kang still do their antics, but the new DC heroes are the ones
that manage to steal the show.
First up, the roster feels fresh and evidently, a lot of efforts has been put
to make sure that the characters and their moves reflect their respective comic
identities. Superman is nothing short of a powerhouse with a lot of devastating
combos, and the Joker has been portrayed as a tricky combatant.
The inclusion of the mid-battles sequences, Klose Kombat and Freefall Kombat,
spurs up the action significantly. On paper, they're two different kinds of
executions but basically they're all mini games. The overall combat mechanics
are incredibly solid and well balanced.
The game does offer two entirely distinct story modes, but sticking to the MP
component is what I would recommend which basically allows you to test your
might and skills online with other players or veterans. As far as Vs titles are
concerned, Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe is not for people in the market for a
technically correct fighting experience. Having said that, it does indeed manage
to offer a solidly casual fighting experience.
