The reputation of FEAR in the industry as of today, is of a twisted/psychotic
guardian angel of horror and gore. Monolith with all their strength and guts,
scripted a story with a girl child at the helm of it, Alma Wade, who of course,
after the release of FEAR went to become the new Mistress of Death and
Destruction. The franchise sort of lost its sheen in the form of two very
mediocre expansion games, Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate. But thankfully,
Monolith took their creation under their own wing and delivered Project Origin,
a very entertaining and an incredibly worthy sequel.
7The story picks up just a few minutes before the explosion that concluded the
original title. A special squad is sent to hunt down Genevieve Aristide, the
President of the company responsible for transforming Alma into a supernatural
freak capable of reducing an entire Delta Squad into one singular particle. You
play as Michael Beckett, who in pursuit of the culprit, runs into a noticeably
old Alma, ready to split Planet Earth into two after spending almost 17 years in
imprisonment.

Like the Point Man in the first game, Beckett is blessed with a skill that
slows down time, assisting him in dispersing more and more foes. Using the
bullet time ability becomes very essential as the enemy AI is probably one of
the best, comprising of the one of the most cunning super soldiers in the genre,
who take cover with will, and verbally communicate with each other to track down
your position. The environments in the first title were plagued with monotony,
usually comprising of offices and crème' shaded walls. Thankfully, Project
Origin will see Beckett fighting in various surroundings of varying scales such
as an elementary school, science facility, and through the subway system. Fresh
environments bring with them new enemies which by and large resemble those
experimental beings from the movies.
The zig-zag pacing transitions from hallucination based sequences and
encounters with weird supernatural beings to incredibly intense firefights with
skilled super-soldiers, there are plenty of frightening events that the player
will get to experience throughout the campaign.
Coming from the utterly atrocious expansion games, Project Origin is a worthy
contender for comeback title of the year. There are plenty of scares and twisted
events in the SP campaign that will keep you in the hunt for the best of six
hours. Highly Recommended!
